Today we began looking at inventions in Inquiry.

The Dough Machine

We discussed why things are invented;

• to make stuff
• to make life easier
• because were lazy
• to make it quicker

Inventions are designed to make our lives easier in some way.

To continue our work we are going to look at different inventions, each student has chosen an invention to investigate. To help our work in the classroom, students have been asked if they can bring in information about their invention.

Questions to look at are;

• When was it made?
• How was it made?
• Why was it made?
• Who made it?
• What is it useful for?
• Where was it made?
• Also providing pictures to see its transition over time.

This week is Catholic Education Week. This years catholic focus is about Mercy!

Today we discussed what mercy is;

• to stop something (Ethan M)
• begging for something (Isla)
• pleading for forgiveness (Jamieson)
• to help others (Jayden)
• compassion to forgive someone who has hurt you  or another person and ask for forgiveness (Coby and Molly)
• saying sorry (Hunter)

We have a Mercy card we use at school to talk to our friends who we may have hurt.

The 4 steps are;

1. Sorrow – “I am sorry for…”
2. Empathy – “It was wrong because…”
3. Promise – “In the future I will…”
4. Mercy – “Please forgive me.”

Today we looked at what it means to be a friend.

Miss Kennedy asked us, “A friend is…”

• nice, plays with you (Jacob)
• a person who cares/ shares and lets you play games (Jetlin, Jayden)
• you being kind to other people (Tyler)
• someone who helps you when your hurt (Isla)

We then drew a picture of us having fun with a friend.

Miss Kennedy then asked us, “Why do you have fun together?”

• he lets me play xbox and tells funny jokes (Finn)
• you like having fun together (Skye)
• pl sports, tell jokes and have fun together (Jayden)
• we play fun games together (Molly)

Next we made a recipe for friendship, we had to include what we would include in our ingredients what qualities our ideal person would have. 

These included;

• not shy (Molly)
• can be kind (Skye)
• to be my friend and speak nicely to me (Destiny)
• friendly (Sarah)
• enjoy the stuff I like (Hunter )
• always have a smile (Abbey)
• love one another (Jetlin)
• do whatever I wanted to do (Taylor)
• nice eyes, they tell you about the person (Mia W)
• talk (Heley)
• funny (Isla)

In Literacy Resources, I have added some power point resources that can be used to practice sight word knowledge.

Today we were learning about our family trees. We read a book called ‘Family Forest’ by Kim Kane. 

We each filled out a family tree. We put our names and parents names and tried to put in our grandparents too, however some of us couldn’t remember their names. If you could help us by telling your child their grandparents names we can add more to our family trees. 

Grade 2 used Word Works to practice our ‘d’ word wall.

In Grade 2 we have learning about calendars. We have made a class calendar and are learning about the seasons and which month belongs to each season.
